Romans 1:9a NKJV
“For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son…”
Good morning, friends.
There’s something powerful about being able to say, “God is my witness.” Paul isn’t throwing around a casual phrase; he’s anchoring his entire ministry in the presence of God. Everything he does, he does before the One who sees all and knows all. That’s not meant to be a fearful thing; it’s a freeing one. Paul isn’t serving for applause or approval; his service flows from a place deep within: his spirit.
Notice how he describes it; he serves with his spirit in the gospel of His Son. This isn’t mere religious duty; it’s not performance. Paul’s whole inner life is wrapped around the good news of Jesus. That’s the kind of strength that endures; when our motivation isn’t external but internal, Spirit-led, and Gospel-shaped.
So often we serve with our time, our energy, and our gifts. But do we serve with our spirit? Do we wake up with a desire to make much of Jesus, not just in what we do, but in how and why we do it? That’s what Paul models for us, an inner life fully yielded to God, a strength that starts in the soul.
True strength comes from serving God with your spirit, not just your effort.
Today’s Reflection:
Where does your strength come from today? Ask the Lord to renew your spirit so that your service flows from a deep love for Him, not just responsibility.
Closing Prayer:
Lord, You see my heart. You know the places where I’m tired, and the places where I’m trying to do things in my own strength. Fill me again with Your Spirit. Help me to serve You not just with my hands, but with my whole heart. Let my life be rooted in the Gospel and led by love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
