Passage: Romans 6:15-23

Key Verse: Romans 6:23 NKJV

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Good morning, friends.

Paul brings his powerful argument in Romans 6 to a striking conclusion: every path leads somewhere. Sin doesn’t just trip us up; it pays us back, and the payment is death. But God, rich in mercy, offers us something we could never earn: eternal life, freely given in Christ.

It’s not always easy to think about consequences. Sin can feel appealing in the moment. It promises excitement, escape, or comfort. But Paul reminds us to look further down the road. What fruit does it bear? Where does it lead? Is it worth the cost? The truth is sobering: apart from God, even our best efforts eventually leave us empty and disconnected from the life we were created for.

But the second half of the verse is like sunlight breaking through the clouds. God offers a gift, not a transaction, not a paycheck, but a gift that is unearned, undeserved, and utterly life-giving. When we belong to Jesus, we are no longer defined by where we’ve been or what we’ve done. We are defined by where He’s taking us. Eternal life isn’t just a future promise; it’s a present reality that shapes how we live now, with hope, purpose, and joy.

Sin always leads to death, but God freely offers life. Each decision we make guides us toward one of those ends.

Today’s Reflection:

Are there habits or patterns in your life that may seem harmless now but are slowly leading you somewhere you don’t want to go? What would it look like to turn around and receive God’s gift anew today?

Closing Prayer:

Father, thank You for being so generous with Your grace. I know there are times I’ve chosen what feels good in the moment and ignored where it leads. Please open my eyes to see the fruit of my choices. Teach me to walk in the joy and freedom of the eternal life You’ve already given me through Jesus. In His name I pray, amen.
