Romans 1:17 NKJV

“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, ‘The just shall live by faith.’”

Good morning, friends.

In yesterday’s verse, Paul boldly declared that the Gospel is the power of God for salvation, for everyone who believes, both Jew and Gentile. Now, he adds why that’s true: because in the Gospel, God’s righteousness is revealed in a way that can only be received by faith. Not by heritage, not by law-keeping, not by strength. Just faith.

When Paul says “from faith to faith,” he’s pointing to the span of God’s saving plan. From the faith of the Jew, who first received God’s promises, to the faith of the Gentile, now fully welcomed in through Christ. The Gospel reveals that God’s way of making people right has always been rooted in faith, and it’s always been open to all who believe.

Then Paul draws from the prophet Habakkuk: “The just shall live by faith.” That truth, first given to Israel during a time of waiting and uncertainty, now stands as the foundation for everyone. Jew or Gentile, young or old, near or far; if you live by faith in Jesus, you are counted among the just.

God’s righteousness is revealed through the Gospel and received by all who believe, no matter who they are.

Today’s Reflection:

Let this truth settle into your heart: the ground is level at the foot of the cross. God’s righteousness is not reserved for a few; it’s offered freely to all who believe.

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for revealing Your righteousness through the Gospel. Thank You that faith, not background or effort, is what You honor. Help me walk today with humility and joy, remembering that Your grace reaches everyone, including me. Amen.
